Sydney University Village was presented with the 2003 NSW Urban Taskforce Award for Development Excellence in Residential Development by the Premier of NSW in October, 2003.
Sydney University Village was awarded the High Density Housing and Mixed Use Development Award of the Urban Design Institute of Australia (NSW Division) in November, 2003 and is the NSW Division's nominee for the 2004 national awards. The judges' comments included -
"The apparent simplicity of the site plan and buildings belies a great depth of thinking across the multiplicity of environmental issues.
The final result is a fine-grained mix of living and recreation environments that provide a welcome respite from the student body on the main campus.
The buildings are carefully sited and scaled in response to surrounding streets, whilst creating finely considered and scaled internal courtyards and walks.
The internal circulation systems and arrangement of facilities encourage interaction.
The project is a fine example of how affordable housing can be delivered without forsaking quality design and environmental responsiveness".
